(JPN) Vince Cherico with Jazz Vibraphonist Dave Samuels
Here’s a case of Yamaha artists putting their chops together to create some exotic and exciting grooves: Jazz vibraphonist Dave Samuels with drummer Vince Cherico at the Tokyo Cotton Club. Dave Samuels & The Caribbean Jazz Project also features Ruben Rodriguez on bass, Oscar Feldman on sax, and Arturo Stable on percussion.
Vince played a Maple Custom Absolute setup (out of production), and Dave used YV-3910J vibes.
There’s something about well-executed Afro-Cuban rhythms that makes it almost impossible to sit still. They simply command the body to dance! But when you try to play these rhythms yourself you quickly learn that they’re a lot easier to dance to than to play (note to self: practice more!).
Everyone in the band had great smiles the whole time, and when it was all over they left the stage with a suggestion that we’d see them again. It seems they enjoyed Japan, and we’re looking forward to having them back!
